Message from Dr. Juan F. Arratia

Welcome to the webpage of the Advanced Modular Incoherent Scatter Radar (AMISR). This page will provide you with information regarding the development and installation of the AMISR in La Plata, Argentina.

The Student Research Development Center (SRDC), located at The Ana G. Mendez University System (AGMUS), has been dedicated to the advancement of our students through research. The center has implemented many successful educational and research programs funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). These programs have helped hundreds of students with the objective of transfering them from undergraduate to graduate school.

One of the key factors of the location of the AMISR is that it will be positioned where the field of view includes the magnetically conjugate point of the Arecibo Observatory. The procurement of the AMISR will be the foundation for the creation of the Argentine Ionospheric Radar Experiment Station (AIRES), which will lead to many research endeavors for students throughout the world. This center together with the Arecibo Observatory will provide the opportunity to conduct countless research experiments and projects that have never been tried before.

We invite you to further explore the page for it has valuable information about the project, its staff, collaborators, as well as the progress of the project. We are very excited with the potential of this project and the positive impact it will have on future research opportunities for young researchers from Puerto Rico and around the world.
